The cost varies according to how far or close from the CBD you are. Normally the closer you are the more expensive it gets. Price changes too if you share the house, or bedroom or if other housing expenses are already included in your rent. Places close to the beach also tend to be more expensive.

Homestay
You will live with an Australian family, this option often includes meals and you will rent a bedroom and will live with the family in the house, this option can easily be arranged for the student prior to arrival. It is a very common option for the first weeks in the country.

Share house
You will live with other people; usually international students and you can either have your own bedroom or share it. The rest of the house will be used and shared by everybody and the expenses split amongst all residents.
The cost will vary depending on the number of residents, locations and if your bedroom is single or double.
This option is ideal for those who want to save some money and at the same time meet new people and different cultures.
To find a house, there are always people announcing a place on sites or community pages on Internet, word of mouth or school notice boards. We can also arrange you accommodation before you arrive.
You will also need to pay the “bond” usually two weeks of rent paid before you move in.
Hostels
For travelers, backpackers or for those who are just looking for a place to stay for a few days or even for the very first days when you arrive in the city, Hostels are the best option!
They daily rate are quite reasonable and they are very well located so it is a good way to get some sightseeing done right at the start, they also have a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Daily rates can range from $20 to $40.
Flats
You can rent a flat for yourself or yourselves. In that way you can live in your own way without having to share. To rent a flat the cost can be significantly higher than in the other two options because most of the time, you will rent an empty space, so you will have to buy furniture and appliances and also be responsible for all expenses like energy, gas, water and internet. The minimum period of a lease is 6 months. There is also something called “bond” which is a deposit paid to the landlord equivalent to more or less 4 weeks of rent that will only be returned to you at the end of the lease assuming that the place is found in the same condition as before as per agreement. The best way to find a flat is first to decide the area where you want to live and then you can search online or in local real states. Make sure you visit the place before you sign a lease and read it carefully.
